Are Invisalign® clear aligners right for me?

Commonly known among industry professionals as clear aligners, orthodontic systems like Invisalign® are flexible plastic substitutes for traditional braces. While slowly becoming one of the dental industry’s most well-known clear aligners (having helped more than 7 million patients), Invisalign has also helped to make the process of straightening your teeth simple, painless, and more effective than ever. If you’ve been debating whether Invisalign is right for you, we’re here to answer all your questions and provide the insights you need into how and why these treatments succeed.

You can first check out the Invisalign® page on our website for answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive on this treatment. After all, we are run by quite the expert on clear aligner treatments! Besides being a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the International Congress of Oral Implantology, the Spear Study Club, and the Loudon County Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Nikpourfard has received his certificate in Invisalign orthodontic treatment. That’s alongside his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, of course.

Once you understand what clear aligners are, and the basics of how the Invisalign works, it’s time to contemplate the numerous advantages the Invisalign system and how they apply to your unique situation. The biggest and most commonly understood advantage of Invisalign is in the name: it’s invisible! This is a huge boon to people who might feel self-conscious about braces, but it also makes it much easier to notice bits of food stuck in your teeth for a cleaner mouth overall.

Many of those concerned about the nature of the plastic that will be in their mouth on a regular basis are right to worry. Some plastics can be dangerous. Fortunately, Invisalign aligners are made from clear, BPA-free medical-grade thermoplastic (called “SmartTrack”), which has been approved by the FDA. They’re also free of latex and gluten for those with allergies and/or sensitivities.

With no metal in your mouth for the wires or braces to connect to, you can easily remove your Invisalign aligners at any time. Invisalign’s patented SmartTrack material is custom fit to your mouth and conveniently snaps on and off whenever you need to eat, drink, brush, or floss. Don’t worry about your existing aligners deteriorating, either. Every two weeks, your aligners are changed out for the next set that will continue to reinforce the progress that’s already been made in straightening your teeth. In the event of losing your current aligner, you can always visit your dentist to see if you can switch ahead of schedule or if you might need to have a replacement aligner fitted.
